President Paul J. Maurer is pleased to announce that Dr. Mark Hijleh will be promoted to the role of Provost at Montreat College, effective December 4. In this expanded role, Dr. Hijleh will act as the chief academic officer for the college, overseeing the execution of academic policy and curriculum, program development, accreditation matters, and faculty hiring and development for the School of Arts and Sciences and the School of Adult and Graduate Studies. Dr. Hijleh was hired as the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Montreat College’s School of Arts and Sciences in July of 2021.
Before coming to Montreat College, Dr. Hijleh served as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty at The King’s College in New York City. Dr. Hijleh also previously served for 21 years at Houghton College in a variety of academic and faculty roles, including the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
Dr. Hijleh holds degrees from the University of Sheffield in the UK, John Hopkins University, Ithaca College, and William Jewell College.
