For the sixth time in seven years, Montreat College was named an NAIA Champions of Character® Five-Star Gold Institution.

The Cavaliers landed among a group of more than 130 gold winners. In total, 209 NAIA schools garnered gold, silver or bronze status.

Institutions are measured annually on their demonstrated commitment to the NAIA’s Champions of Character program. Schools earn points in numerous categories, including character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions also tally points based on exceptional student-athlete GPAs and by having minimal to no ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.

Montreat also contributed to the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) being named an NAIA Champions of Character® Five-Star Conference. To be selected as a Five-Star Conference, a league must have an established Champions of Character Conference Committee, a conduct in competition oversight committee comprised of at least three members and at least 60 percent of its member institutions earning a Champions of Character® Five-Star Institution Award. All 16 AAC full-time members captured a Champions of Character nod in 2023-24.
