Montreat College President Paul J. Maurer is pleased to announce that Ed Carroll has officially been named Executive Director of the Carolina Cyber Center (C3). Carroll, who served as Interim Executive Director since March 2024, brings over a decade of experience in cybersecurity technical sales and enterprise solutions to the position.

“Among Ed’s greatest strengths is that he is a servant-leader. His dedication and commitment to C3 and Montreat College is exemplary,” said President Maurer. “The Carolina Cyber Center plays a crucial role in addressing workforce development needs throughout North Carolina, and Ed’s experience and expertise is the right fit to advance the goals of C3.”

Since joining the Carolina Cyber Center (C3) in 2021 as Senior Director of Corporate Engagement, Carroll has been instrumental in forging strategic partnerships that have broadened the scope of C3’s work.

“I’m honored to lead the strong team at the Carolina Cyber Center as we continue to make a difference through cybersecurity education, services, and workforce development,” Carroll shared. “C3 is uniquely positioned to positively impact North Carolina and the broader region and inspire the next generation of cybersecurity professionals, and I’m grateful to Montreat College for this opportunity.”

Carroll holds a bachelor’s degree in management from Montreat College’s School of Adult and Graduate Studies, as well as a master’s degree in innovation leadership and entrepreneurship from Western Carolina University. A 30-year resident of Western North Carolina, he lives in Weaverville with his wife, Kelly, and their four children. He is an InfraGard member and serves on the board of the Update South Carolina Chapter of the Cloud Security Alliance as a speaker coordinator.

The Carolina Cyber Center was established by Montreat College to provide cybersecurity workforce development and services to harden the cybersecurity defenses of the state of North Carolina and the region. A first of its kind, the Carolina Cyber Center (C3) seeks to be a national demonstration project in state-wide cybersecurity preparation and threat mitigation.
