Health Sciences
The Health Sciences program is excellent preparation for graduate study and an eventual career in the health care field.
Students receive the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to successfully pursue graduate study in pre-medical, pre-dental, pre-pharmacy, pre-physical therapy, pre-optometry, pre-veterinary, pre-chiropractic, or pre-physician assistant programs.
The health sciences major combines the core parts of Montreat College’s mission to educate students through intellectual inquiry, spiritual formation, and preparation for calling and career.
Required internship provides exposure and experience in chosen health care field

Sample Courses
BL 103 Advanced Survey of Biological Principles I
General introductory study stressing principles common to all living organisms: their structure, function, basic chemical and physical properties, inheritance, evolution, and ecology. Three hours of lecture and two hours of lab per week. The advanced biology course will have more in-depth coverage of all topics in lecture, and more challenging inquiry-based laboratory activities.
BL 206 Human Anatomy and Physiology I
An introduction to basic concepts of biology and the in-depth anatomy and physiology of the skeletal and muscular systems with additional overviews of human respiratory, cardiovascular and nervous system anatomy and physiology for health sciences students. The laboratory portion emphasizes the scientific method, involving observation, experimentation, data analysis and critical thinking, as applied in the study of human anatomy and physiology.
BL 220 Medical Terminology
This on-line course is designed to introduce students to medical terminology commonly used in a variety of health care fields. Emphasis is placed on prefixes, suffixes, and building and analyzing medical terms.
